Hello everyone! I was going to show you cute pictures of my library club students reading to the elementary kids for Read Across America day, but we had to postpone it for the weather! I’m not complaining, though, since we are getting out 3 hours early. And never fear – I’ll have cute pictures soon.
So now, here are some upcoming middle grade titles I’m excited about!
First up is File Under: 13 Supicious Incidents, a companion to the Lemony Snicket series, All the Wrong Questions. If you’ve been reading Middle Grade Monday, you’re already well aware of my love for Mr. Snicket’s books. This is a collection of 13 mini mysteries set in Stain’d-by-the-Sea, with solutions provided in the back of the book. Available April 1 from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, ISBN 9780316284035.
Next we have the second book in the School for Good and Evil series, A World without Princes. Author Soman Chainani brings up the next installment in the story of Sophie and Agatha. As they are living each in her own Happily Ever After, Agatha secretly wishes that she’d chosen hers differently, and the gates to school are reopened – and much has changed. Available April 15 from Harper Collins, ISBN 9780062104922.
David Lubar is back with another collection of Warped and Creepy Tales with Wipeout of the Wireless Weenies. David Lubar is uniquely able to capture the middle grade sense of humor. These books have a dedicated following in my school, so I’m excited to see another one is coming. Available April 22 for Starscape, ISBN 9780765332141.
Award winning author Kenneth Oppel’s newest title, The Boundless, looks to be a fun journey. The main character, Will Everett, is a first class passenger on a train touted to be the “greatest train ever built” when he comes into the possession of a secret key to a compartment full of valuables. To escape the evil villains who (of course) want the key, will must join the circus (of course.) I’m looking forward to this one for myself as well as my students. Available April 22 from Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers, ISBN 9781442472884.
Finally, a perennial favorite in my library, Tom Angleberger’s latest Origami Yoda Book is out tomorrow. I was going to go hear him speak tonight at my local book store, but it has been cancelled due to the weather! Ah, well. Princess Labelmaker to the Rescue is the latest installment in the saga of McQuarrie Middle School, where the students are fighting a menacing enemy – Dark Standardized Testing Forces. May the force (and Principal Rabbski) be with them. Available March 4 from Amulet Books, ISBN 9781419710520.
