Giveaway: Sink your teeth into book 1 in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead (before you see the movie)

This year there a ton of YA books being made into movies and I’m not going to lie, one of the ones I am looking forward to is Vampire Academy.  In fact, just Saturday I took my youngest to see The Nut Job (let me save you the trouble, don’t go) and once again saw the big, full size promo standee and thought . . . soon.  It helped get me through yet another horrible animated kids movie.

Vampire Academy is a vampire movie, obviously.  But this is not Twilight.  Rose is a half vampire/half human girl who is strong, sometimes out of control, and a huge defender of her best friend, Lissa.  In fact, one of the things I love about this series is that it contains a strong female friendship.

According to the press release, “The director of  Mean Girls and the writer of Heathers  are the force behind this adaptation of book 1 of author Richelle Mead’s #1 international bestselling series. The books are published in over 30 countries and have sold 8 million copies in the US alone.”  Mean Girls and Heathers, that right there makes me want to see it.

Today I have a chance for you to win book 1 in the Vampire Academy series so you can read it before the movie comes out.

Publisher’s Synopsis:

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

The movie was originally set to be released on February 14th, but the date has been moved up to February 7th.  I can tell you that teens still come in regularly and check out these books.  So here’s your chance to win a copy of book 1 in the series before the movie comes out.  Simply enter the Rafflecopter below between now and Friday, January 24th.  I will contact the winner for their mailing address and the publisher will send the book out to you.  Open to U.S. residents.  And on February 7th Christie and I will be taking the Tween to see this movie.
