#WLA14

I want to give a huge thank you to the Wisconsin Library Association for inviting me to speak today at their YSS Luncheon about TLT and the #SVYALit Project. Also, tremendous thanks to Linda Jerome who has been an awesome host. I have met a lot of great, dedicated YA librarians today and am honored to be in such great company. I always appreciate the opportunity to talk about teen services, books and the #SVYALit Project, these are topics that are dear to me. Wisconsin Rocks!

If you are interested, here’s a look at the discussion we had today. I quickly added a few notes afterwards to further explain some of the slides that didn’t have a lot of text because I was talking about them.

  1. Karen,
I was at the WLA YSS luncheon on Wednesday. Thank you for all the great book suggestions! You started your talk with a few trivia questions and book giveaways and I missed a title you mentioned. It was something about a book you had read recently and thought should be an award winner. The woman in the audience who knew the title of the book was also VERY thrilled about the book. I think the book was YA fiction. The enthusiasm you and the audience member both had made the book seem interesting, but my colleague and I missed the title and author. What was it?

It was I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. If you read it, I would love to know what you think. I just think it is beautifully written.
